5 CRPF Jawans Killed in Fidayeen Strike in J&K, 1 Terrorist Shot Dead

Anantnag, June 12: Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans have been martyred after terrorists attacked a patrol party near a bus stand in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag on Wednesday, according to CRPF sources. One terrorist was also killed.

Reports said that the terrorists opened fire upon a joint naka party of the state police and the CRPF near Oxford School at Khanabal-Pahalgam road today around 04:55 pm. The gunfire is still underway.

Station House Officer of Anantnag Police Station, Arshad Ahmed, who was injured in the attack has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment, said officials. While police sources said it appears to be a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) attack, they did not confirm the number of casualties.

Meanwhile, Al Umar militant outfit has claimed the attack. The attack comes months after 40 CRPF personnel were killed in a suicide blast in Pulwama, which had brought India and Pakistan close to a war.
