8th Police Martyrs Memorial T-20 Cricket C’ship concludes

JAMMU, JANUARY 10:  The 8th Police Martyrs Memorial T-20 Cricket championship concluded at Kathua here today. Hon’ble Governor Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Satyapal Malik graced the occasion on the closing ceremony.

In his address, Governor Satyapal Malik lauded the sacrifices made by martyrs for integrity and sovereignty of the nation.  He said the role of J&K Police in the maintenance of peace has been hailed by one and all. Referring to the welfare measures taken by the governor administration, he said that welfare of the NOK’s of the martyrs will always be the priority. He complimented the police for the peaceful conduct of Panchayat and urban local body elections.

Governor complimented the Kathua Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee for their efforts in organizing T-20 Cricket Championship. He also appreciated the people of Kathua for their support to this championship. He later on distributed trophies and prizes among the winner and runner up teams.  The Governor also distributed gifts among the NOK’s of martyrs.

On this occasion, Director General of Police Shri Dilbag Singh who was guest of honour said that J&K Police has been fighting terrorism and during the fight, more than 1600 police personnel of the force have attained martyrdom for the security and sovereignty of the Nation. He said that with the generous support of the Central and State Government a number of welfare measures have been taken during the Governor administration.

DGP thanked the government for addressing all the issues of police personnel on priority. He said that enhancement in ex-gratia was a great effort to assist the families of police martyrs, and an increase in remuneration of SPOs has gone a long way in boosting the morale of the SPOs. DGP hoped that other issues of the force will be addressed favourably.

Earlier, SP Kathua Sh. Sridhar Patil welcomed the guests and gave details of the tournament. Besides senior officers from Police and civil administration, a large gathering of the public witnessed the final match and the closing ceremony.

Sixteen teams including four from the state and twelve from the rest of North India participated in the championship. The final match was played between L.B Shastri Cricket Club Delhi and Haryana Cricket Academy Haryana. L.B Shastri Club lifted the championship was awarded a cash prize of rupees 3.50 lakh. Runner up team was given a cash prize of rupees 2.50 lakh. Man of the series was given Alto Car and Best batsman, best bowler and man of the match each were given motorbikes.

The Championship has become an annual feature of the police sports calendar which provides a platform for the players particularly from Kathua to perform. Players, who have played IPL, also participated in the Championship.
