Ajay of Udhampur bags Sujandhar Kesari Dangal

JAMMU, Sept 09:  Udhampur wrestler, Ajay Sharma of Laden Power House lifted the 51st Annual Sujandhar Kesari Dangal title defeating Noor Shaker of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi in the main bout that took place at village Sujandhar in tehsil Bhamag of district Reasi.

Dangal was organized by Sujandhar  Dangal Committee under the overall supervision of Sohan Singh Thakur (Sonu), vice chairman Katra Indian Style Wrestling Association and Prem Singh (Mangu), general Secretary Sujandhar Dangal Committee.

Vice president Indian Style Wrestling Association of India, who is also president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and former Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma was the chief guest, who distributed the cash prizes worth Rs 2,05,000 among the wrestlers.

The BJP leader, Saraf Singh Naag, vice president of the Naresh Kumar (Pappu lakri), social activist Sohan Singh Thakur (Sonu), Tehsildar and Mela officer Akshay Rajan were guests of honour. Sarpanch Amar Nath Bhagat, Tehsil Supply Officer, Rashpaul Singh, Bansi Lal Thakur, Master Kirpa Ram and Sub- Inspector G.S Malik were among others present.

Winner of the main bout, Ajay awarded with Cash of Rs 18,000, while runner-ups Noor Shakher got Rs 13,000.

In total, 70 bouts decided in this day long dangal. Sohan Singh Thakur (Sonu) contributed Rs 52,000 as financial assistance to the organizers.

Members and technical officials who helped for smooth conduct of wrestling event included  Prem Singh, Sohan Singh Thakur, Devinder Singh (Mangu), Thakur Balwant Singh, Ram Singh, Tej Singh, Budhi Singh, Govind Singh, Mukhtyar Singh, Mohd. Gani, Chuni Lal, Vakil Singh, Mohd Younasaf, Naresh Kumar (Pappu lakri) Sunny Sharma, Nazir Ahmed,Pawan Kumar, Chain Singh and Mohd Fareed.

Weightlifting trials on Sept 11

Jammu and Kashmir Weightlifting Association shall be holding selection trials to name State team for the upcoming 15th Youth (Sub-junior boys and girls), 56th Men and 32nd Junior Women Championship to be held at Bodh Gaya from October 15 to October 23.

The selection trials shall be held  at Weightlifing Hall, Gulshan Ground, here on September 13, a handout issued by the Association here today informed.

“Those eligible lifters shall be selected in the weight categories of 49 kg, 55 kg, 61 kg, 67 kg, 73 kg, 81 kg, 96 kg, 102 kg, 109 kg and plus 109 kg,” informed general secretary of the Association, Yudhvir Singh.
