IR 17th bags overall trophy in Armed Police

JAMMU, Dec 30: The IR 17 emerged overall championship in the five-day long annual inter-Battalion Sports meet of the J&K Armed Police held concluded today with the holding of valedictory function at Gulshan Ground, here today.
The IR secured highest 65 points out of 28 medals including 15 gold, seven silver and six bronze in different team and individual events held at different venues, here. The overall second place went to JKAP 12th Bn with 56 points earned out of 11 gold, six silver and eight bronze medals. The IR 7th remained at third position securing 31 points, including 12 gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
Chief guest of the valedictory function, Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbag Singh complemented ADGP Armed, AK Choudhary and IGP Armed Jammu, Danesh Rana and their team for successful conduct of the mega event. DGP said, “Armed wing is back bone of the J&K Police which has come a long way from humble beginning and today it is one of the best State Armed Police of Country.”
Complementing the police personnel for earning special mention and praise from the Prime Minister of India in the DGPs Conference at Gujarat the DGP said, “It is because of the sacrifices and the excellent work by the officers and jawans that the Governor of our State, Satya Pal Malik and the Home Minister of India, Rajnath Singh have been all praise and have announced a number of welfare measures, for us.”
The DGP also congratulated the players and the officers for their participation and showing their excellence in sports and advised them to work for keeping the flags of the Police, State and the Country high.
While praising the Asian Games Bronze medallist in Wushu, Bhanu Pratap Singh and his coach, Inspector Kuldeep Handoo, the DGP impressed upon the participating players to enhance their capabilities and excel at State, National and International level. He
In his address, the ADGP Armed, AK Choudhary presented a brief account of the event and the games played in it. He thanked the DGP and the PHQ for their support and assistance in organising the event. He also thanked the different wings of the state police for assisting in successful conduct of the event.
In his thanks giving speech, organising secretary of the event, IGP Armed Jammu, Danesh Rana said that during the event new sports talent of the Armed Zone was spotted which will be put to trails for selection in the Central Police Team and for the National competition. He also thanked all the officers, civil departments, wings and print and electronic media for their cooperation and assistance.
JKAP 7th excels in team events
The JKAP 7th Battalion excelled in the team events taking away three title trophies of Basketball, Tug of War and Volleyball. Athletes from 7th Bn remained runners-up in Handball. For the Basketball title, JKAP 7th beat IRP 4th whereas in Tug of War title clash, IR 7th trounced IR 12th. In Volleyball final, IR 7th defeated JKAP 8th. In other team events of Football, JKAP 9th outplayed JKAP 8th while in Hockey, IR 3rd bet IR 12th. In Handball team event, IR 18th downed IR 7th and in Kabaddi, IR Ist beat JKAP 12th.
GOs individual events
In Pistol Glock (25 mts), Farooq Hussain Shah (DySP) won the gold while second place secured by Rakesh Rakesh Kumar (SSP).The Pistol Glock (15 mts) Standing position gold went to Vijay Kumar Jamwal (SP), who beat Swarn Singh Kotwal (SSP) in the final. In Table Tennis, Paramvir Singh (DySP) of IRP 16th beat Sumit Kotwal (SP) of IRP 15th in the final. The Lawn Tennis gold won by Sanjay Kotwal (SP), who beat Samir Kotwal (SP) in the final.
