Book Review: Justice Gone by N. Lombardi Jr (War Veteran vs Cops)

Justice Gone is a book that challenges contemporary perceptions. It is a mystery and crime thriller like no other. From the first page, the book invokes emotions in the reader – aggression, pity, understanding, hatred, sadness and bias.
War Veteran v/s Cops.
There’s an evident bias in the mind of every reader according to his/her own experiences. Everyone would choose one side or the other but what the author does quite well is put all forth all the angles. The bias of the reader is his own. The author does not inject his own views or personal opinions in it. What he does showcase is his knowledge about war veterans.
This review will need to be broken into parts because there is a lot that needs to be mentioned.
Genre: The book stays true to its genre. There is crime in the first chapter itself and there is mystery and thrill throughout the book. The chapters covering courtroom drama were quite exciting as well.
Plot: The plot is my second favourite thing in the book. It is well thought out and unfolds at the right pace for the reader to comprehend everything that his happening. The plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat and I read this book hurriedly to find out what happens next.
Writing: The writing is well refined. That is why the scenes played out like a movie in my head and I could easily picture each character and their demeanour. The prose was also likeable and the writing was able to conjure up the right emotions in me at the right time.
Characters: If the plot is my second favourite thing about this book, then the characters are my topmost favourite. From the Blind lawyer to Dr Tessa, the cops and the war veteran, I found all characters to be so realistic and well-developed that I could see them alive under the pages of the book. They had the aura of being three-dimensional and I loved that feeling. It made the book matter because it felt like we were reading about real living breathing people.
Overall, I think that the author has done a pretty good job with this book and this is one book I will not forget for a long while. It deals with so many different themes and tackles them all quite well. When I first received this book, I was a bit hesitant because the summary looked like this would be a book that would drag on and have dry prose and bland characters. Instead what I found was a riveting read that I would recommend to mystery lovers.
