RAJOURI, JAN 18: Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, today inaugurated newly established Drug De-addiction, counselling, Rehabilitation and Skill Development Centre, here at District Hospital Rajouri.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Yougal Manhas and Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar besides other staff were present.

The drug de-addiction, skill development, counseling and rehabilitation center, has been equipped with adequate infrastructure to treat drug addicts as patients. Currently the center has 10 beds, even as further technical support will be provided by Civil and Police administration.

While speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner said drug addiction and substance abuse affects the capabilities and energies of the youth and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together and eradicate the menace, which is growing at an alarming rate. “Besides de-addicting the drug users, there is need to address the major reasons which provoke the youth to take drugs. Drug abuse makes the youth dependent, incapable to face the challenges and finally takes their life” he said.

He said the district administration in association with the Police administration has taken initiatives for the physical, mental and skill development of the youth of the district.

The DC directed the Medical Superintendent to submit a DPR for development of indoor game facility to channelize the energies of affected youth. An isolation room will also be constructed adjoining the main hall.

“Our target is to make Rajouri a drug free district and bring the addicts in the mainstream,” he said adding the provision for skill development has been made to enable drug user to lead a dignified life after leaving the Centre.
