DH Leh, CHC Khalste bag first Prize in ‘Kayakalp Awards 2018-19’


SRINAGAR, JUNE 1: District Hospital (DH) Leh has bagged the first position and won award money of Rs 50 lakh under the “Kayakalp Awards 2018-19.”

“Kayakalp Awards” encourage every public health facility in the country to work towards standards of excellence to help facilities stay clean and hygienic. District Hospital Baramulla, DH Udhampur, DH Pulwama, DH Reasi have won commendation awards of Rs 3 lakh each.

In the category of Community Health Centres (CHCs), again it was CHC Khaste in district Leh that bagged the prize with award money of Rs 15 lakh was bagged by. While as the second prize was awarded to CHC Pattan, District Baramulla who was awarded the money of Rs 10 lakh.

Commendation awards of Rs 1 lakh each were given to CHC Sankoo, CHC Drass (Kargil), CHC Nubra (Leh) and CHC Sopore (Baramulla). In the category of PHCs/ UPHCs, an award of Rs 2 lakh each has been bagged by PHC Wandevelgam (Anantnag), PHC Sheeri (Baramulla), PHC Panikhar (Kargil), PHC Nyoma (Leh), PHC Khrew (Pulwama), PHC Sedow (Shopian), PHC Rattanpur (Samba) & UPHC Nishat (Srinagar).

Advisor to Governor K. Vijay Kumar, Financial Commissioner, Health & Medical Education Atal Dulloo, and Mission Director NHM  Bhupinder Kumar have congratulated the award-winning Health Facilities and appreciated the efforts of the Director Health Services Jammu / Kashmir, Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents, Block Medical Officers, Incharge Medical Officers and the entire team of health facilities.

The objectives of this the award scheme is to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health care facilities, to incentivize and recognize such public healthcare facilities that show exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocols of cleanliness and infection control, to inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review of performance related to hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation, to create and share sustainable practices related to improved cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes.

Under the Kayakalp, the assessment process starts with an internal assessment of the health facility cyclically done by the constituted facility level Infection Control and Cleanliness Committee followed by Peer Assessment, where the facilities which are scoring more than 70% in the Internal Assessment are assessed by the team of the neighbouring District/Block facility team and finally External Assessment of the facilities scoring more than 70% after Peer assessment is done by the team which is nominated by the Chairman State Quality Assurance Committee.
