Electoral Literacy Clubs to be set up in Bandipora Schools, Colleges

BANDIPORA, Jan 7: District Election Office Bandipora is all set to establish Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELC) in secondary, senior secondary schools and colleges with an aim to educate students about voter registration, electoral process and related matters.

Giving details about these clubs, Bilal Ahmad said that the ELCs are especially being set up in secondary and senior secondary schools targeting the future voters. He said clubs will have students from Class IX, X, XI, XII as its members and will promote electoral literacy in all age groups by engaging them in interesting activities and hands-on experience in apolitical, neutral and non-partisan manner.

Bilal Ahmad urged the heads of the institutions to establish the Electoral Literacy Clubs in their respective institutions at earliest and highlighted the importance, structure, working and activities of the clubs. He said that the aim of establishing the ELCs is to educate the target population about the different stages of electoral process and to familiarize participants about EVM and VVPAT.

He said the clubs will help students to understand the value of their vote and exercise their right to Suffrage in a confident, comfortable and ethical manner and to facilitate voter registration for its members as they achieve the age of 18. He said the ELCs will help to develop a culture of electoral participation and maximize the informed and ethical voting and follow the principle “Every Vote Counts and No Voter to be left behind”.
