Governor lifts Travel advisory, tourists welcome again in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 7: Governor Satya Pal Malik directed that the Home Department’s advisory asking tourists to leave the valley be lifted immediately. This will be done w.e.f. 10.10.2019.

On August 2, an advisory was issued asking Amarnath Yatris and other tourists to immediately leave valley. The decision was taken prior to Centre’s decision to amend article 370, abrogate J&K’s special status and bifurcate the state in two Union Territories.

In a major step today, Governor Satya Pal Malik discussed the matter in a meeting held to review the security situation in Kashmir. The decision was taken in the meeting and Governor Satya Pal Malik ordered for lifting of the previously issued advisory. The Governor’s order will come into effect from October 10 and tourists would once again be allowed to return to the state for the first time since Centre’s move on abrogation of Jammu Kashmir’s special status. The meeting chaired by Satya Pal Malik was also attended by the Principal Secretaries of Planning and Housing & Urban Development Department. Governor’s advisors and the Chief Secretary were also present in the meeting.
