JU removes Prof Jasrotia from headship of Geology Department

Jammu, Dec 5: Jammu University has ordered the removal of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia from the headship of the Geology Department after members of the Geology Department went on an indefinite strike demanding the same.
The action was taken after a Fact-Finding Committee prima facie established the allegations against Prof Jasrotia, who was accused of using foul language and harassing the students as well as faculty members.
The committee, comprising Prof Meena Sharma, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Prof Prikshit Singh Manhas, Prof Baljinder Singh and Vinay Thussoo, was constituted after students and faculty members of the Geology Department went on an indefinite strike.
In its preliminary report, the committee found allegations against Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia prima facie correct and recommended necessary action. Acting on the recommendation of the committee, Jammu University issued an order, according to which Prof Jasrotia was relieved from the headship of the Department of Geology with immediate effect. Following the order, students and faculty members of the Geology Department called off their strike.
