MD JKSRLM inaugurates leaf plate making units


JAMMU, SEP 23:  To empower the women by making them economically self-reliant, Mission Director Jammu and Kashmir State Rural Livelihood Mission (JKSRLM), Abdul Rashid War today inaugurated the ‘leaf plate making’ units here at Panjgraian and Bajalta under UMEED scheme.

He was accompanied by Additional Mission Director Sham Lal and Block Programme Manager, Arsheed Ahmed Bhat.

JK SRLM has started eco friendly advanced leaf plate making Units in Dansal Block to boost small scale enterprise of ‘Plash and Blonged’ leaf plates.

It is the first of its kind unit started by women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the division.

In his inaugural address, War said this unique facility could be used to display and sell various products made by the women among the pilgrims and thus giving rise to a new entrepreneurial possibility of work with worship.

The Mission Director also stressed on to replicate such units in other blocks of the state also. He said that UMEED scheme is aimed at providing better livelihood facilities to the women and alleviate poverty particularly in rural areas. He asked the members of SHGs to work on mission mode to achieve the tangible results and fulfill the purpose of the programme, besides contributing towards the welfare of the society.

War also took the stock of leaf plate making units started by female SHG members and also interacted with SHG members of Panjgrain & Bajalta Village Organizations regarding friendly utensil making enterprise out of leaves and Paper.
