NC likely to ditch grand alliance, to go solo in J&K elections

TSL News Network

JAMMU, Dec 7: In what could be termed as a significant move, National Conference (NC) has indicated moving out of the grand alliance and forming a government on its own in Jammu and Kashmir.

Though the National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah did not say a word about Lok Sabha elections but he did say that NC would go solo in the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He declared that National Conference will form a majority government even as he called for early elections to the Assembly and charged the BJP with trying to delay the polls fearing imminent defeat.

Addressing a function at the party headquarters here, Farooq said the coalition Government was not required in the State and the National Conference will be able to form majority Government after contesting the Assembly elections on its own. Calling for early elections to the Assembly, Farooq charged the BJP with trying to delay the polls fearing losses.

He cautioned the National Conference workers against indulging in indiscipline during the elections by contesting as the rebel against the official party candidates. Farooq had a piece of advice for Prime Minister Narendra Modi – be tolerant like Atal Bihari Vajpayee to ensure acceptance by all people.

National Conference patriarch also accused the BJP of following a divisive agenda. “When (Jawaharlal) Nehru unfurled the tricolour at the Red Fort for the first time, he never thought that a party will come to power in future which will try to divide this country. Britishers divided it into India and Pakistan and the country will be divided into many parts of the ruling party continues with its divisive agenda,” he claimed. He said that the BJP claims Lord Ram is theirs but according to holy texts, “Bhagwan Ram belongs to the entire universe and not Hindus alone”.

Asking Modi to be “tolerant like Vajpayee”, Farooq said, “He is the Prime Minister. He has to come up to that level and should not get engaged in smaller issues. At this time I feel sorry for his statements.” He went on to add, “Please inculcate a sense of tolerance, Prime Minister Sahib. If you have to run this country, you have to be tolerant and ensure acceptance by others. All have to be taken along if you have to run this country. Be tolerant like Vajpayee Ji.”

He claimed if the country is united today “it is because of Nehru”. He also said that war is not a solution to conflicts. “We would stay safe in our houses but jawans would lose their lives. We do not need to have war with China and Pakistan. We want those countries should also make progress and become prosperous,” he added.

Farooq said that India was going through the worst period of history as attempts were being made to divide people into communal lines and “nobody knows about how many pieces this country will be divided into under BJP rule.” “We have to stop this as soon as possible or else you will see destruction everywhere ahead…You will see blood everywhere because this regime is leaving no stone unturned to create an atmosphere of hatred across the country,” Dr Abdullah said.

While referring to Bulandshahar incident in Uttar Pradesh, the NC patron said it was very unfortunate that the Chief Minister of a State was busy watching Kabaddi match when an SHO was being killed by the mob protesting against the alleged sacrilegious incident in Uttar Pradesh.

“Actually, the BJP leaders are ‘Daaku Number 1.’ Only they’re responsible for every single killing in the name of religion,” he said. Abdullah also hit out at the RSS leaders for what he said preaching hatred from the Government institutions.

“The ruling dispensation in Delhi has given most of the top positions, even in the education system to RSS people and they’re the most useless people in the country,” he said. Dr Abdullah said that the people of the country don’t fear about any danger from Pakistan but they fear about the communal divide “mastered by BJP and RSS men within India.”

He also targeted the BJP leaders for abusing Congress leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi. Co-Chairman National Conference SC Cell, Vijay Lochan, who had organized the function, also addressed the gathering and spoke on life and sacrifices of Babasaheb Dr BR Ambedkar.
