On Civil Services Day, meet IAS Officers loved by J&K

Jammu and Kashmir is infamous for its bureaucratic difficulties but on Civil Services day, here are five IAS Officers which are adored by the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their contribution to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and also their people skills.

5. Syed Sehrish Asgar

Syed Sehrish Asgar is an IAS from 2013 batch, known for her gentle nature towards the public. Asgar, before IAS has been an IPS and had cracked KAS as well. She is a doctor by education. She is known for spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene in the females of Kashmir division. Currently, she is serving as Director Information and Public Relations of Jammu and Kashmir.

4. Simrandeep Singh

An IAS from 2007 batch, Simrandeep Singh recently organised a meeting of doctors and other officers at midnight to discuss the safety of doctors and other medical staff in Jammu’s hospitals amidst Corona pandemic. Known for his swift actions, he brought many reforms which increased transparency in JKSSB during his tenure as Chairman of JKSSB. Currently posted as Special Secy to the Government, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, he has been CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

3. Avny Lavasa

Avny Lavasa came into limelight when she took strong action against Prominent BJP leaders in a case of Bribery during elections. Currently posted as Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Avny Lavasa has also served as DC Ladakh. She is also the initiator of Ladakh school Olympics. She had consistently organized workshops for women empowerment in Leh which made her popular among the people.

2. B V R Subrahmanyam

A top bureaucrat from Chhattisgarh, B V R Subrahmanyam is credited for the crackdown on Maoists in Chhattisgarh. 1987-batch IAS officer who hails from Andhra Pradesh, he is now Chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. He has served as an advisor to Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Considered an expert in internal security matters, he has also served as private secretary to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during 2004-2008. He is known for his swift action and strict implementation of orders.

  1. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary

A constant name in the 10 best IAS of India, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary is the most loved and respected IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir. He is known for working consistently and exceptionally for people of Jammu and Kashmir. People of Kathua district protested when he was posted out of Kathua and this reflects people’s love towards him because of his work. Known for immediate action, Shahid Choudhary has been awarded with National award for women empowerment by PM of India in 2018. Along with it, he has been awarded with National Award for Best Electoral Conduct Award by Election Commission of India. He is also recipient of PM award for excellence in Public administration. Currently, he is serving as DC Srinagar and is applauded for his work in corona pandemic.
