PMS, cramps and what not to do

Periods, you have them every month and they play a major role in everyone’s life. Most of the girls get annoyed and irritated by the routine because of cramps and what not.

PMS i.e. pre-menstrual syndrome affects not only the girl facing it but everyone around her as well. She would feel cranky, have anxiety and mood swings and the outburst would be experienced by everyone in contact. These are signs that one is about to get periods and she’ll have to take the utmost care of herself.

Here are some tips to avoid the discomfort and pain during your menstrual cycle:

Before at least 4 days of the start of your cycle, stop drinking cold water and things that have colder impacts on your body. Do not eat oily and fried food. Try to consume more rich food and nuts even during periods. Do not eat rice and junk food. A tip that will make you feel a lot happier during your periods is to eat a bar of chocolate for better, irritation-free, pain- free and cramp-free periods.

Avoid heavy exercises or going to the gym. If you have an urge to do something actively, go for a light walk, nothing more than that.

Try not to have pain killers and try home remedies like drinking ginger tea, turmeric tea and chamomile tea etc. for pain relief. Pain is common during periods and most people take medicine for relief, but depending upon pain killers is a curse for your body. If you are having irregular periods, consult a doctor,  especially if you are overweight or underweight. Also, eat more baked flour food.

In general, include kiwi, blueberries, cranberries, beetroot and pomegranate in your diet as these are good for blood generation in your body.

If cramps are hurting you badly, put a warm water bottle on your tummy. Eating green leafy vegetables during periods will lessen the cramps as well. Also, eating bananas is the best remedy for cramp-free menses. They will not only lessen the pain but also balance your mood.

Ensure proper hygiene during menses and change your sanitary napkin, tampon or menstrual cup at the appropriate time. And ensure that you remain hydrated. Drink a lot of water and have a balanced meal at regular intervals.
