Sopore Operation; Terrorists open fire on Security forces, encounter starts

SRINAGAR, Apr 8: An encounter broke out between terrorists and the security forces in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramullah district following night long siege.

Sources said that a joint team of army’s 22 RR, 179 bn CRPF and SOG cordoned off Gulabad area of Arampora Sopore  on Tuesday evening following inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. Following 14-hours long siege, reports said that the gunfight broke out after the security forces approached the spot where the terrorists  were hiding.

On Tuesday evening, Security forces put up lights to prevent terrorists from escaping. A police officer also confirmed that the contact has been established with the hiding militants. He said the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area following specific information about the presence of some militants. The exchange of fire was on when last reports came in.
