Story of an Autorickshaw Driver’s daughter who dreams of qualifying civil services.

In a one-room home with a temporary toilet, no electricity and no water connection, a bright young girl from Jammu dreams of becoming an IAS officer. A sole sister of two brothers, brightest in the family, she scored 88% in 12th class exams in Arts stream.

Shikha Patial lives in Village Rahya which falls in Samba District of Jammu and she is a living example that hard work and diligence is all you need to be successful in life.

“I was getting pressurised from everyone to choose Non-Medical or Medical subjects in higher studies but I had a clear goal in mind. I wanted to be an IAS officer and so I chose arts,” she said in a conversation with Pallavi Sareen of Straight Line.

(The interviews were conducted on May 29, 2019 but have been rehashed and reshared on Civil Services Day)
